Rev. Samuel D. Stephens

Born on 9th September 1954 in Salem in Tamil Nadu, Rev. Samuel D. Stephens completed his graduate degree in the Madras Christian College and his post graduate seminary education from The Union Biblical Seminary in Maharashtra. He joined the India Gospel League in 1973 and has been serving God through the organization since then. He has provided leadership in different capacities for its various ministries.


He is deeply involved with work at the grass roots including


  • Church planting,
  • Rural and community development
  • Education
  • Child care
  • Medical
  • Health care
  • Administration.

His deep commitment to a sustainable transformation of the lives and living conditions of people in the rural villages of India has manifested over the years through the establishment of rural schools, medical clinics, skill training centers, day care facilities, the planting of churches and a host of other programs touching and empowering the lives of thousands of men, women, youth and children.During these past years he has gained wide knowledge and a rich field experience in Development issues through grass root level involvement. He has developed practical skills in dealing with people at all levels and confronting intricate issues related to relief and development work. He has traveled extensively in India and other parts of the world. He communicates with great passion his call to serve people and his vision of seeing the Kingdom of God established.


Apart from initiating several innovative programs for the development of the community, Sam is the founder of the

  • National Association of Interdependent Churches
  • Association of Indigenous Ministries
  • Cancer center and General Hospital
  • Jeevan Sahaya Nidhi(Life Fund).

Sam can be described as a visionary leader, an able administrator and a committed activist at the grass roots. He is deeply committed to the raising of young next generation leaders and the empowerment of women for transformation. Sam is an excellent communicator and has the ability to pass on his Vision with great passion. His life’s ambition is to see the reign of God firmly established.


Sam and his wife Pratibha have 9 children (7 of them adopted) and live with an extended family of more than 400 children, youth and adults on the Sharon Campus in Salem, Tamil Nadu, South India.
